Do I need a referral?

Yes. A valid referral from a doctor or specialist is required before booking an appointment.

Are there out-of-pocket costs?

Yes. Depending on the treatment type and PBS eligibility, appointments and procedures may involve out-of-pocket expenses.

Is parking available onsite?

Yes. Free parking is available at the rear of the practice — see here for further information.

Neurological Consultations

Do I need a referral?

Yes. A valid referral from a doctor or specialist is required before booking an appointment.

Are there out-of-pocket costs?

Yes. Depending on the treatment type and PBS eligibility, appointments and procedures may involve out-of-pocket expenses.

How long will my appointment take?

Standard initial consultations are 1 hour. Consultation times vary depending on the reason for referral and complexity of symptoms. You will be advised at the time of booking.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your referral, medication list, Medicare card, and any relevant scans or reports.

Will I need further testing?

Some patients may require additional investigations such as MRI, EEG, EMG, or nerve conduction studies depending on their symptoms and assessment.

Botulinum Toxin Treatments

Do I need a referral?

Yes. A valid referral from a doctor or specialist is required before booking an appointment.

Are there out-of-pocket costs?

Yes. Depending on the treatment type and PBS eligibility, appointments and procedures may involve out-of-pocket expenses.

How long do the effects last?

Treatment effects typically last around three months, although this can vary between patients.

Is botulinum toxin treatment painful?

Most patients tolerate treatment well. Injections are performed using very fine needles and discomfort is generally minimal.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your referral, medication list, Medicare card, and any relevant scans or reports.

Will I need ongoing treatment?

Some conditions require repeat treatments to maintain symptom control and ongoing benefit.

EEG Testing

Do I need a referral?

Yes. A valid referral from a doctor or specialist is required before booking an appointment.

Are there out-of-pocket costs?

Yes. Depending on the treatment type and PBS eligibility, appointments and procedures may involve out-of-pocket expenses.

Can I eat before the test?

Yes. Patients should eat normally unless advised otherwise.

Do you provide testing for children?

Northwest Neurology provides specialist consultations for adult patients only. Children are not seen in consultation at our practice, neurophysiology testing, such as EEG, is available to patients of all ages with a valid referral.

How long does the test take?

Most EEG recordings take approximately 20 to 40 minutes, however appointment times may vary.

Is an EEG painful?

No. EEG testing is painless and non-invasive.

Should I take my medications?

Yes. Continue taking medications as normal unless your doctor advises differently.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your referral, medication list, Medicare card, and any relevant scans or reports.

When will I receive results?

Results are reviewed by the neurologist and a report is sent to your referring doctor.

Neurophysiology Testing

Are there out-of-pocket costs?

Are these tests painful?

Some parts of testing may feel uncomfortable, particularly EMG or nerve conduction studies, however procedures are generally well tolerated.

Do I need a referral for neurophysiology testing?

Yes. A valid referral from a doctor or specialist is required.

Do you provide testing for children?
