Referral Information
Northwest Neurology accepts referrals for adult patients requiring neurological consultation, investigation, or ongoing management. Please note that children are not seen in consultation at our practice. Neurophysiology testing, such as EEG, is available to patients of all ages with a valid referral.
Referrals can be submitted via:
- Medical Objects
- Fax
- Post
- Other secure electronic delivery systems
All referrals are reviewed and triaged according to clinical urgency. Non-urgent appointments may involve extended wait times.
For urgent referrals or urgent neurological advice, Hunter New England healthcare professionals are encouraged to contact the practice directly.
Please advise patients that appointments and investigations may involve out-of-pocket expenses.

Consultation Services
Northwest Neurology provides specialist neurological consultations for a broad range of neurological symptoms and conditions, including:
- Headache and migraine
- Epilepsy and seizure disorders
- Parkinson disease and movement disorders
- Multiple sclerosis
- Stroke and post-stroke assessment
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Myopathy
- Motor neuron disease
- Neuroimmunological conditions
- Dizziness and balance disorders
- Memory and cognitive concerns
Consultations may include:
- Neurological assessment
- Review of imaging and investigations
- Diagnostic clarification
- Ongoing management recommendations
- Referral for further testing where required

Neurophysiology Referrals
Northwest Neurology provides neurophysiology investigations including:
- Electromyography (EMG)
- Nerve conduction studies (NCS)
- Electroencephalography (EEG)
These investigations assist in the assessment of conditions affecting the nerves, muscles, spinal cord, and brain.
Please include:
- Relevant clinical history
- Symptoms and duration
- Examination findings where applicable
- Previous investigations
- Specific clinical question where possible
Reports are provided to the referring doctor following review by the neurologist.


Botulinum Toxin & GON Block Referrals
Referrals are accepted for botulinum toxin treatment for selected neurological conditions including:
- Chronic migraine
- Cervical dystonia
- Spasticity
- Hemifacial spasm
- Blepharospasm
- Axillary Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Northwest Neurology also provides Greater Occipital Nerve (GON) block treatment for selected chronic headache and migraine presentations.
Some treatments may be PBS eligible, while others may involve private treatment costs depending on indication and eligibility criteria.

Northwest Neurology does not provide paediatric consultative neurological services.
